Key metal is soft

I took to GM dealer and they cut the key. It would not turn the ignition. I went back to the dealer for they guaranteed the cut to work. Their machine was not able to cut the key because they said the key blank was soft metal. They gave me a GM blank key and cut it and that worked fine. I was able to program the fob with no trouble.
