Concise Depth Study. Layers Create Illusion of Depth
Techniques . . . not only describes history and descriptions of Dutch Masters' painting, it shows technique of creating a luminescent depth with step by step instructions with illustrations of each step and in clear, large size photographs of Old Masters' works, the author's process, her mentor's process, and contemporary artists' works. In addition, there is a review list of steps and a supply list.
These principles of layering enhance works in other media such as crayon, pastels, et al wherein on works with workable fixative between layers.
A good book to view prior to attending an exhibit of Dutch Masters!

Somewhat academic. Interesting read! Also read . . .
It's academic style writing by an academian. Enjoyable and informative in the way author weaves music, culture of the times, and personalities.
If you enjoy this book, then I highly recommend Performing Music in the Age of Recording
by Robert Philip, which delves into music and audiences prior to recorded music, and might be very interesting for you. I loved both books.

A classic
A nice read to go along with an in-person basket class or group. The book presents language or basket weaving, relevant illustrations, and opens th world of possibilities for future baskets.
