a Must Read for all Christians

Fascinating reading. Provided the context and background I was searching for in attempting to figure out the question I've been asking myself and fellow Christians: how/why have we gotten so far away from the original message and, instead, often support morally bankrupt politicians who are really all about the almighty dollar and excluding anyone who is "different"? My favorite passage from the author: "...of all the moral subjects and ethical rules elaborated deeply throughout the Bible and the history of Christianity, why have so many American Christians seemed disproportionately obsessed with sex?" Griffith ponders "the rise of the new Christian right [wave] in which it seem[s] people of faith [are] directing much greater energy toward erecting fortresses against sexual activity outside of marriage than participating regularly in activities Jesus emphasized more: feeding the hungry, welcoming the stranger, clothing the needy, tending the sick, and visiting the stranger." Griffith does a terrific job of detailing the history of this sexual preoccupation by the Christian right and --- spoiler alert --- it's all about control of the populace.

Worth it for the Serious Genealogy Researcher

The book does exactly what it advertises, `though I wish the price was a little lower. The content is available on Ancestry, but, sometimes one finds information via another settler's bio when one isn't necessarily looking for it. Not scintillating reading but interesting for ancestry research. One should expect the usual flowery language of the time, glowing biographies, often overtly religious, but there's also content about "life in general" for these people which provides helpful context. Some of the reading is just a hoot. For the serious researcher, perhaps having the book spiral-bound would make for easier study.
