A must have item, if you like good story telling.
This Blu-ray box set is beyond compare. Director Peter Jackson is the best of the best when making a really good story. The quality of the Blu-ray is breath taking.

Ronald Colman at his suave best.
Mr. Colman's run of the bank at a posh M. C. club, winning millions of French franks, is perhaps statistically very improvable. However, he does it with such ease, grace and flair, even the great Sir Laurence Olivier would have to take note of Mr. Colman's acting talent.
The screenplay is about a group of former Russian royals attempting to recreate their previous life styles with the winnings from this fun little romp, while they (collectively) work at a fairly nice French eatery as the kitchen and wait staff. Within the Russians are some very fine Hollywood character actors, lending a nice light heartedness to their collective demeanor. Mr. Colman is part of this group of Russian "ex-pats".
The romance within the story seems a bit far fetched, and Mr. Colman almost makes it work.
Compared to today's villains, the bad guys in this movie are not all that treacherous.
All in all an enjoyable, not too serious movie.
Thank you!

Far and Away, a well constructed film
It is interesting the variation of opinions about the movie, Far and Away. Some viewers praised it while others trashed it. Yet both groups saw the same movie. Perhaps opinions reflect the state of mind of each viewer.
I have always preferred the happy endings, the "and they lived happily ever after" ending. This movie ends very well.
Visually, the "70 mm" film shooting is great. The music score is very good. And of course the two protagonists, Ms. Kidman and Mr. Cruise are tops in attractiveness, especially Ms. Kidman.
Ron Howard has the reputation for making solid well directed films and he is at the top of his game here. I would not hesitate to compare Mr. Howard to the great Frank Capra.
In the final analysis viewers must keep in mind "it is just a movie". If the film is able to distract one from life's daily ups and downs, it is a good movie. If at the end of the film the viewer is left feeling good about the future of the two stars, it is a good movie.
Forget the nit picking technicalities some folks are so fond of engaging and enjoy the show.
Thanks
