A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles (2016, Hardcover)

A 21st century Dostoevsky
This is a very engrossing novel about the first half of the 20th century in Russia. It centers around the main character living out his life at the Hotel Metropol, which I think still exists. The style of writing is remarkably reminiscent of Dostoevsky's with the attention to detail and flourishes. I'd be hard pressed to say how it ends, with its twists and turns that keep the reader moving quickly along with the story. I look forward to reading it on my lunch break every day and will be sorry when it ends.
