sed surface pro brydge keyboard (the all metal older version)
i've used a ms pro surface 4 for years. the only way to truly make it function physically like a laptop (like sitting on your lap & not collapsing) is to use a BRYDGE keyboard.
unfortunately, BRYDGE "updated" their keyboards - in the wrong direction. the new ones look the same at a glance & on many partner websites the OLD photos are being used, to be clear, the NEW keyboards in the store have lost quality & function - the new ones have a plastic face (over the keys) w/ a bit of give, slight torque & unfortunate texture - and the hinges are flimsier & less padded (making the screen more likely to suffer as it slides into the hinges).
the OLD one, the one this review is about is superior for many reasons: the entire body (back & top/face) are machined smooth aluminum. it still has function keys that have been removed from the new one, the most important one being a battery indicator light key - it flashes to let you know how much power you have independently of connection to the surface-pro. the new one has removed that key & you must be connected to your device to look at readings - which completely defeats the ability to know if the keyboard is working/powered on its own.
i've never paid as much as i did for a used piece of electronic/computer equipment as i did for this. and so far so good. it's been several weeks & i am breathing a sigh of relief. having gotten the new keyboard ($$$) and hating it, i set out to find a used keyboard. they are hard to find. i'm kinda nervous that this review could make someone go look for one :)
