If you are looking for the best acting, this is your version!
1 of 1 found this helpful I have always been a fan of Christmas movies, with A Christmas Carol and It's a Wonderful Life as the benchmarks for classic film making.
Prior to 1984, I would have said Alastair Sim's rendition of Ebenezer Scrooge was the best. Once I saw George C. Scott in this part, however, it was clear a new high water mark had been made. In every way, Scott portrays the perfect Scrooge. Never seeming at all to "act" the part, he IS the man himself. Scott's performance was what Dickens wrote it to be.
But it isn't only GCS's amazing portrayal that moves this film ahead of the rest. All of the acting in this movie is so well crafted that it is, as a package, better in every way than the earlier Sim version or the later Patrick Stewart version.
If you only own one version of this movie, make it this one. There is simply no better.

Top of the Line
1 of 1 found this helpful I've been playing a long time, mostly on electric, but have owned a few good acoustics over the years. I was ready to have another good one, and began looking at the typical Taylors, Martins, Guilds, Gibsons... just looking for a good deal on a long term keeper. I found this one on eBay, in mint perfect condition, for $3000 and couldn't pass it up.
This is Taylor's top production guitar, and you can see it as soon as you open the case or put your hands on it. Extremely nice workmanship. I thought the 914CE might be a little too gaudy for my tastes, but when you see it in person, the fancy appointments are done so well that it just looks upscale... a nicely dressed up 814CE in many ways. You can scrutinize the inlay work, binding, wood, frets... not a single flaw. The interior wood even smells good.
But you don't buy a guitar to look at it, you buy it to be played. Again, playing electric almost exclusively makes me dread the heavier action of acoustics, but this isn't bad at all. Much heavier strings than my electrics, and the action is clearly higher. I would say it is between my normal electric action and new Martin acoustic actions. The feel of the neck is very nice, well shaped and easy to move around on.
The sound was a little more well rounded than some Taylors I have played, which seem to trend towards the trebly end of the spectrum. This guitar is completely even, no emphasis anywhere I can hear. Works well for Travis style finger work, and doesn't wilt at all under heavy strumming or picking. The higher action and heavier strings will get my hand strength back up, but it isn't so high that it needs to be adjusted... just different. The amplified sound (ES2 system) is surprisingly good direct to mixing console, no preamp needed, with solidly balanced acoustic sound.
All in all fits the "Top of the Line" descriptors, and a more traditional feeling acoustic than I expected from a manufacturer known for acoustics that play like electrics. I'm impressed with it, impressed with the ES2 pickup system, and very happy with the purchase. It will be staying with me!

Quality that’s worth the price!
Le Creuset is the gold standard in cast iron cookware. The only downside, like buying gold, is that is is more expensive that lesser options. That’s life, folks. Quality costs, tradition costs because it means the product is proven out in the real world by pros and home cooks alike. It’s heritage cookware that you can pass on for generations. The value will continue to pay for itself long after you’re gone. How many things that you buy can claim that?
Cooking or baking in Le Creuset cast iron is a joy. The smooth and durable interior makes it easy to gauge browning. Heat is smooth and constant while cooking, and results are predictable both on the stovetop and in the oven.
You can buy cheaper cookware, and it’ll work. Or you can, like me, save a little while and buy heirloom-worthy cookware that you’ll love throughout your life, and your children's children can love a hundred years from now.
