It works.
In order for the part to fit a 1996 VW Golf, I had to disconnect the alternator harness retainer from the starter and move it forward.

Clutch push rod
So far, so good.
I saw nothing wrong with the rod and had the shop foreman examine it before installation, because the machine work didn't look exactly like the VW one. It's working great for now. Only miles will tell.
One of these along with one of the 5th. gear green caps should always be installed with a new clutch. The rod wears down over a period of time and the car can become difficult to get into gear.
