Not that difficult to replace.
My old shifter was worn. The newer model is a little different from the old one, but compatible. Replacement was not that difficult.
I'm surprised that the newer design if more open, conceivably less protected from rain and dirt.

Had to upgrade from Elements 11
I used Elements for years; 11 came with my most recent scanner (Epsom). I recently upgraded to a new laptop with Win 10 and a high resolution screen. 11 loaded in, but the size of the print made it unreadable. It was a bug related to the high res screens now in common use. Apparently the bug had been worked out by Elements 13. My new laptop of course doesn't have a DVD drive. I had an external drive but it didn't work properly with Win 10 (I have returned it). I ended up downloading Elements 14 from the Adobe site and registered it with the serial number that came with this product.
If you're experienced with Elements over the years, it is pretty friendly. It is a powerful program, but I don't see it easy to learn. Not particularly intuitive, and nothing of the "feel" Microsoft programs transfers over.
