BICYCLE HIGH WHEEL VINTAGE PHOTO PENNY FARTHING CYCLIST 1880s 8x10 #21390

A wonderful photo of Four 19th Century High Wheel Cyclists
I am an amateur historian specializing in bicycle history. This photo is a great asset for my research because it shows with great clarity what young cyclists of the 1880s looked like. The photo also shows considerable detail of the high wheel bicycles ridden by these cyclists. I am very pleased with this photo, and I could recommend it to all persons interested in bicycle history.

Buffalo Soldiers were Brave and They Rode Bicycles Too!
This book is a reprint of a regimental history written in the 1930's. In the late 1890's, Lt. James Moss lead a contingent of this regiment from Missoula, Montana, overland to St. Louis, Missouri on bicycles. The effort was made to show the usefulness of bicycles in military operations: The ride was successful, but the U.S. Army never adopted the bicycle as a tactical vehicle. This book has some marvelous pictures of the men training for this ride, and then on the ride itself, which I value as important additions to my collection of bicycles and things relating to bicycles. The quality of the reprinted pictures in this book are not the greatest, but the price was right. Now, I will save up to an original copy of this book.
The Great American Sports Book by George Gipe (1980, Hardcover) First Edition

A Sports Book Full of Great Sports Stories
This beautiful book is bond in leather and contains 448 pages of fascinating stories and statistics about sporting events in America from the 1890s into the 1970s. My main interest is in bicycles which is a rather minor part of this large book, but even most of the major sporting events related to bicycling are covered with enough detail to give the reader a good sense of what happened in the event being described. Examples are the story of Marshall 'Major' Taylor, the amazing African American from Indianapolis, Indiana, who, in spite of tremendous racial prejudice and racially motivated actions against him, became the world champion bicycle racer in 1899. Whether you are interested in baseball, football, bicycling, or some other American played sport, you will find this book to be an interesting read.
