They don't make them like this anymore!
You can't really say anything bad about this movie...solid well rounded characters, cast does a phenomenal job, pervasive and impressive special effects...This movie still holds the record for most scale miniatures used in a single film...AND IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. Us intelligent humans with decent eyesight can tell the difference between a cheesy generic CGI explosion and the real explosions seen in Independence Day!! When the Empire state building and others explode it is AMAZING! 15 years later the movie still looks better than most movies do today.
Every where you want the movie to go it goes. Wanna see the inside of the mother ship and the millions of ground troopers preparing to deploy to the surface of Earth? You got it.
3 elements completely make the movie rise above all others.
1) The Canyon chase - an alien fighter chases an F-18 around canyon walls, under falling rocks, etc. AWESOME!!
2) Will Smith in the dessert - Perfect acting, perfect contrasting colors, setting. So memorable. These scenes made his career.
3) Area 51 - Brent Spiner as the mad scientist and the botched dissection: "What is it you want us to do?" to which the alien replies "DIE". Again, extremely well done and memorable.
hands down a bonified classic. Can't wait for the sequels!!

she's only 3 and it's too loose for her on tightest setting but she will grow into it
