Testing The New Pantum
1 of 1 found this helpful I sell office equipment for a living and thought I should check out what this new company is flooding the world with.
My first impression was "This box is heavier than I expected." It seems to be well built. It appears to be more durable than comparable HP models. It is older technology. The heater section uses an upper roller which will use more power than current HP/Canon designs. This design does however print envelopes without wrinkling them like most new equipment. But It will pull more than one if you try to stack them in the tray.
I find it odd they offer both a "W" and "NW" version. I purchased the "W" version unknowingly. It does not come with a hard wired network port. I am not a fan of Wi-Fi on networked devices. However the Wi-Fi is a hotspot to allow connectivity with portable devices. It is not fully compatible at this time with android as it can only print text files not pdf. It did not pickup any of my wireless networks automatically. When I told it to print the network settings page they were listed at which point I could manually enter the ssid & password. After that it worked great.
I have not used it enough to know about the short life of the cartridges that other reviews have used to condemn it. I guess I will find out soon enough. There are refill toners available online but no chips as of yet. There is also a "Hi-Yield" toner which is supposed to last 60% longer. I will eventually test them but this will be a very low volume unit for me. I expect to put it on the counter and use it to print envelopes occasionally.
So, my overall impression is "it's great but..."

Great Value
1 of 1 found this helpful I bought this one with extremely low use on it. I used it to repair the all in one version I've had for years. It was just due for everything at once so I took all the supplies out of this one. The cost per page to run these is low compared to most other color printers. If you find a good reliable source for aftermarket toners the price goes way down. Just be prepared for a bad one every so often.

Just Like New
My feeder was pulling more than one piece of paper at a time. This kit made it work like new again.
