Outstanding people-proof camera
If you're serious about your photography, I'd look away now; chances are this is not the camera for you. If however you're an active person who needs a camera that can cope with the stresses of an outdoor lifestyle while still returning decent images then this camera is a gem. Being waterproof to 10feet, shock and dust proof has some real advantages. I've taken ours skiing in the morning, to the beach at lunch and snorkelling in the evening, and it worked flawlessly in all three environments. The pictures it returns are vibrant and sharp, although photography in strong sunlight is quite challening with this camera. If I had to identify any faults, it would probably have to be the zoom. The built in 3x optical zoom quite often left me wanting, however I appreciate that to make the unit world+dog proof, you have to make sacrifices, and I would take the rugged portability of this unit every time (I have an SLR for when I need composure/quality over spontanaity). The software load from Olympus is reasonable. You get a basic picture management utility which also handily keeps the camera firmware up to date as well. Finally, inclusion of the microSD to XD adaptor card with this was a long overdue stroke of genius, as it allows you to get high capacity cards withoout breaking the bank!

Not as bad as I was expecting!
Having been a windows user for the last 18 years or so, this was actually a fairly difficult purchase for me. An upcoming project at work suggested the need for Mac compatibility, so I picked up the first one I could find. Initial impressions are very good. The basic stuff is squared away quite nicely and out of the box it does the vast majority of what you want it to do with little/no real expertise required. I was preparing for a real uphill struggle when trying to do things that 'his Steveness' would not approve of, but after a few warning notifications it actually let me get into the guts of the system and fiddle about! If I had any complaints, they're relatively trivial, and may even be a case of an RTFM fail on my part. I'd like an HDD activity light and getting used to life without a right click (I know I can press shift+crtl at the same time, but it's a cludge). All in all, a nice product that does what you would naturally expect it to do. A lot more robust that Macs of old, and certainly a worthy competitor to Microsoft...
