My Side of the Mountain
1 of 1 found this helpful This was an incredibly important book from my childhood. i think my teacher assigned it to us in the fourth grade. I was always thinking about running away from home, from the fourth through seventh grade, so when I read this book about a boy about my own age running away from home and living successfully on his own in the wilds, I reasoned that I could do the same thing, using this book as my survival manual. I highlighted all the parts of the book that dealt with methods that the boy used to obtain food, and highlighted all the tools and other things he brought with him to survive in another color of highlighter. I was going to put all the things I'd need in a backpack and when I was ready, I'd head off in the night on my own and walk through the Iowa cornfields, heading east and slightly north through Illinois and then Indiana until I could reach sanctuary at my grandma's house in Lansing, Michigan. I studied this book until it was tattered and dogeared. I had always planned to bring it with me in my survival backpack, but I never did actually have the heart to leave my mother and stepbrother to run away from my mean stepfather. Instead, my father ended up kidnapping me, instead, when I was thirteen years old, with the aid of my maternal grandmother. But, that's another story. I treasured this book for many years, and still do. Because my paperback copy was in such well-worn condition, I purchased a hard cover book to enable me to keep it on my bookshelf along with a few other carefully selected books curated to represent books that defined my husband and myself as individuals or as a couple. This book is written in a style that makes it easy to relate to the main character and seems very believable, as if it could have been a true story. The illustrations are also in keeping with the intent of the book, as if they had been drawn by Sam, himself. Of all the books I read in my childhood (and I was an "A" student), this book was one of the two most important. Oddly, the other was H.W. Longfellow's "Hiawatha". I have retained my love of nature, supported by these books, throughout my life. I am now almost 60 years old. I was glad to find this book now available in hardcover.

Difficult installation
The toaster oven looks great and works very well, but the design of the mounting hood and the inadequate instructions made installation extremely difficult. In the end, my husband purchased new screws and drilled his own screw holes through the metal in a different place, to make installation possible.

As good or better than expected
These earrings are detailed and the synthetic coral looks real. I am happy with them.
