King Aroo Vol 1 IDW Comics Jack Kent Hardcover Graphic Novel

King Aroo - Royal tradition sustained
The cover of this volume is entirely correct with the blurb that Jack Kent's King Aroo stands with the greatest comics of all time such as Herriman's Krazy Kat, Crockett Johnson's Barnaby and Walt Kelly's Pogo. To that distinguished list I have to add Winsor McKay's Little Nemo and Gus Arriola's Gordo. These six represent the best of the best - funny, sophisticated, satisfying on many levels and pioneers all. If you have never tasted any of these, you are in for one of the greatest treats of your life. We are also fortunate that some cartoonists such as Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes, Patrick McDonnell's Mutts and a few others carried on their tradition and gave us like gifts. Pete

Jack Kent - not only King Aroo
Jack Kent - a neglected genius - not only gave us the treasure of King Aroo (thank you San Francisco Chronicle) but he also wrote and/or illustrated over 50 children's (and for some of us, adult's) books. Many such as Joey are relatively scarce today (mostly due to avid collectors). Read one and you will eagerly search out more of his work - it's that satisfying, pleasurable and addictive.
