Not a patch on previous SE handsets
Having owned several Sony Ericsson phones in the past and liking their simple, robust design and easy navigation, I was looking forward to getting a handset that promised so much functionality.
The phone is the first slider design I have owned and wouldn't rush to own another, it's too easy to inadvertantly start a function on the phone when opening, and the only way of apparently locking the phone when the slider is closed is to actually open it and close again. Overall, the slider feels a slightly delicate mechanism, and leaves you treating the phone with kid gloves.
The other major annoyance about the physical aspects of the phone, has to be the small over-sensitive keypad. Texting becomes a frustrating task, with it being all too easy to press a key twice, or even pressing the wrong key entirely, even when not having particularly large fingers.
Operating system is pretty familiar to users of other SE handsets and still works well, however all the pretty animations and colour probably does have an effect on the battery life, which is frustratingly short. I only use internet, camera and music player occasionally, but am lucky if the battery lasts more than two days.
Don't be fooled by the 8.1 megapixel camera either, due to the small chips most of these phones come with, the quality is certainly no better than my old 3 megapixel camera, and the scanty manual that comes with the phone means you are left with a journey of discovery if you want to find out what the bewildering array of camera functions do.
Overall, despite the nice look of the matt black and silver finish of the phone, and the large screen, everyday usability of this phone is disappointing and I would prefer a simpler design that does the basics well rather than trying to offer pseudo-smartphone functions and blotting the copybook of previously great Sony Ericcson handsets.
