Bigger and better than expected.
1 of 1 found this helpful First off the scale is listed wrong; the vehicle is bigger than 1:18, I have a comparable Mercedes crane truck with the exact same features and size and it is 1:14 scale. The crane boom is listed as "hand cranked" but it is not; actually it is remote controlled, which is excellent! All the features can be accessed with the remote control, not just the truck's movement. The only complaint is that the boom does not extend separately from the raise and lower function; when you raise the boom the crane arm also extends and when you lower the boom it retracts. If that was fixed the item would be perfect other than the bland yellow color. I suggest painting the model to make it look more real, but if you give it to a kid it won't matter. Also it has 4 wheel drive (not 6); the rear wheel move it at a fairly fast speed on hard pack or bare floors but in the dirt it is much slower.

Worth the money and not kids under 10.
Looks and works like the real thing, but I would not give it to a small child for any reason. The model is sophisticated with all the parts being articulated by using the remote control. It has a loud and very real sounding FX generator that can be turned off if it gets too annoying. The treads look and move perfectly and it can climb over small rocks and dirt with no problem. The battery is weak though; I suggest getting a 1500 mAh upgrade 7.4 volt battery from another source. The one that comes with the unit is only 400 mAh, and barely lasts 15 minutes; the upgrade lasts an hour! If you're an adult collector, this item looks exactly like the Caterpillar or Komatsu excavators and with a little paint and some decals it can play the part. The 3 motors in the arm can be replaced with ones from Huina online and so can any of the other parts. It is worth the money but the only drawback is it is not very strong and the clutch slips too easily. The annoying sound of what seems to be grinding gears when it strains to move something too heavy is normal and a prevention method to keep you from damaging the unit.
