Besides the weight, it is what I wanted.
1 of 1 found this helpful I wanted this lens for its range and its wide bright aperture. It is sharp. Not as sharp as its OS replacement but the price used was irresistible.
The motor is not as fast as I wanted it to be. My Sigma 50-500 was faster motorwise but not by much. It runs silent. The lens' feel is solid. It's rings move smoothly - focusing and zoom.
The lens works great with the Sigma 1.4x TC and even with the 2.0x. It focuses the same with or without the TCs mentioned. The only downside to the TCs is the sharpness. This can be offset by pinching the aperture.
It is a big and heavy lens. I thought I could hand hold it effectively but no. It's the heaviest lens I have bought to date. I had to buy a heavier tripod and head because it made my SLIK 700DX wobbly. Now after using it for several weeks, I know I now need a Gimbal to use the lens effectively.
