Not true MPPT but I still like it.
1 of 1 found this helpful This is NOT a true MPPT solar controller. It uses a preset voltage as the max power point since that is typical of most '12 volt' panels. A true MPPT would measure both voltage and current and compute wattage to maximize. That being said, it does coax more power out of the panel than would be derived otherwise without it. For my small projects it works just fine.

Works for my small projects
I am just starting to make small projects using harvested LiION batteries and this unit can charge up 16 cells in parallel in about a day. It seems a little finicky sometimes giving me connection errors and such. Also, it really should come with the balance cables.

Works just ok
First, for some reason this unit does not work at all when connected to bottom of my Canon 580EX. I have spent no time to understand why. It DOES work if it is simply dangled by a short sync cord. Secondly, the electric eye does not seem particularly sensitive. My big studio strobe packs will slave off of any flash anywhere in the room. The SYK-4 seems to need the master flash pretty much pointing in its direction. I didn't expect too much for this price, so it will come in handy in the rare special situation.
