Just take it or leave it
Great music, powerful performance, and a convincing appearance of Wynton Marsalis in the role of Blakey"s trumpet-man. You either accept hard bop sounds or not.There is nothing in-between.Being a member of Jazz Messengers always meant- highly energetic performance,technical perfection and true love of music .If it is not an excellent concert, it definitely is a very good one.Branford Marsalis on baritone, Bill Pierce on tenor,Donald Brown on piano,Charles Fambrough on bass and ,of course,the Master of ceremony himself-Art Blakey on drums express a free spirit of jazz ! JAZZ AT THE SMITHSONIAN was filmed at the Smithonian Institution"s Baird Auditorium ,Feb.19 th 1982. In my humble opinion this is a pure delight to listen to and watch !
