Ernie Ball P02816 Slinky Flatwound 5-String Bass Strings

Not Great

I was looking for a bright sounding flat for my 5 string bass when I found these. I ordered 2 sets based on other internet reviews. While installing the first set the D string broke while initially tensioning it. So I opened the second set to rob the D string from it. After successful installation by using parts of 2 sets of strings I hooked up to my amp and was immediately disappointed to find the A string to be much duller and lower in volume than the other strings. I know the problem is not my bass as other strings work fine.

Great pickup, but not for 5 string bass.

This EMG 40px pickup is great for a 6 string bass, but don't use it for a 5 string. There is a small gap between the two magnets in the center of the pickup that causes low output from the A string on a 5 string bass due to how it lines up. A six string bass will not be affected because no strings are directly over the gap. If you need a 5 string pickup the 40px-5 is the one you are looking for.
