JBL GT4 12" car subwoofer
If you are looking for a good budget subwoofer that packs a good punch then this series of subwoofers is for you! whether it be the 10,12 or 15 inch subs
Since I started to get into the realms of car audio upgrades, I have done a little bit of research, and this is one of the names that kept popping up with recomendations.
JBL is owned by same company that make Infinity, who as everyone knows is a trusted brand in car audio.
The sub itself is well made, has a good quality feel to it, not only this but the cone itself seems to be pretty well sprung and responsive.
I chose to mount this sub in a custom made 35 litre box made from 18mm mdf, though this is a little too big for the sub it sounds well, even though it is slightly underpowered running on about 150w RMS from an Alpine MRD M300 and previously a Vibe Blackbox 1, it still makes my little S2 peugeot 106 rattle!
All in all for the price you pay for this sub it performs well, hits hard and I simply wouldnt have anything else, despite what some say about JBL, This sub in my opinion is a steal and worth every penny for someone looking to install a budget audio system that performs well, especially when coupled with a good set of amplified componant speakers, with cross overs and tweeters

Alpine CDE-9850Ri Ipod,CD, Receiver
1 of 1 found this helpful In all honesty you get what you pay for when it comes to audio from one of the well known brands this being Alpine
This unit is now over 2 years old, but it is still a fantastic unit and worth every penny as far as I am concerned!
It has excellent looks, with an extra feature of being able to change the colour of the buttons, either blue or red, though my preference, the blue looks better. This can even be dimmed down, as the back light is rather bright, and will certainly light up the cabin of your car at night.
The sound from this unit, is perfect, I cant say fairer than that, The Bass engine coupled with a variety of options to change the sound parameters and the great feature of a specific mode for the adjustment of a subwoofer are excellent.
Ipod connection is via a lead which is plugged into the back of the unit, I found that when installing this into my Peugeot 106, it was rather fiddly, I routed this into the glovebox to keep the ipod hidden from preying eyes.
Playing CD's is a doddle as well, simply press a button and the front fascia panel opens, though its not motorized. insert a CD into the slot and away you go! the great thing about it, is that this unit plays MP3 and WMA files from the CD which can be arranged into folders, so finding songs is easy, finding the tracks is pretty simple with the use of the folder up/down buttons and the rotary encoder/volume control. the same method also applies to finding tracks on the ipod itself, though in all honesty the quick search option can be annoying as it simply displays a track number and you have to guess the location of the track, untill its name eventually appears. but other than this finding songs from your ipod is pretty straight forward, once you know what the buttons do, that is. I will also point out that this unit does not have direct access for music tracks, some car audio units, if the number on the front is pressed it takes you to that track number, this Apline unit does not have that feature. rather to using the up/down track skip buttons
Radio - This unit features RDS, and TA (traffic announcement) which pretty much every other unit has these days, but i must say i was impressed at how this unit was able to receive a station which is normally pretty hard to pickup in the area to which I live, but to be honest I don't listen to the radio much
This unit will certainly liven up any car audio system, but to be able to appreciate how good of a unit this is, it is really worth upgrading the rest of the speakers in the car, This unit also features one pre out jack for the connection of an amplifier to power a sub, as well as a remote turn on for the amp. also included is a telephone cable for those with built in car phones, as it mutes the music/ radio and a power aerial connector lead
Again i would like to say i love this unit and it in my opinion, despite its little foibles is worth every penny
