Oki C5400 Flexible all purpose color printer

I looked for a under $1000.00 color printer, small foot print, quiet, network ready and moderatly priced consumables. Final contenders where the Oki and the Xerox Phaser 8200n. I deceided for the Oki, the Phaser ink (wax) looked very easy to handle and is inexpensive, but the smell in my small home office was not acceptable. I also thougt the colorprint quality was better on the Oki. I bought the Oki in 3/05 from CostCentral.com for $860.00. Replaced all 4 starter toners in 7/05, bought from Laserquipt.com, $380.00 for set of 4x 5K. I prefered the size of the oki especially when looking at the HP printers, the Minolta was small enough but did not seem robust or fast enough. The Oki goes automatically into powersave, it goes dark and the cooling fan switches off. I use it on my wireless airport system, 1 iMac, 2 Powerbooks( OS X ) and a portable Dell with WinXPpro. The Oki prints from all computers without a problem. The Macs where easy to install, Win XP was more of a challenge. The Oki takes different quality's of paper, Jams happen but seldom and are very easy to fix. Changing toners is also very easy. The printer can be accessed from your computer, change settings or see whats left on consumables. The print quality is perfect for my use, mainly text enhanced with color, charts, instruction books with color pictures & advertising flyers. For high quality photo pictures I use a Inkjet printer or go to a professional lab. I'm very happy with this printer and recommend it. Today's (1/8/06) pagecount: mono 9356, color 5337. remaining consumables: toner: black 42%, color 66 - 75% Drum life : black 8%, color 55% belt life : 72% Fuser life: 66% today 2/2/2009 I'm now at 79,500 pages, still happy first fuser changed at 44,334 pages today = 21% left first belt changed at 54,890 pages = 56% left drums changed every 15K -17K pages, I did have problems with streaking on a black drum, Oki Replaced it N/C
