Ok solution to puck problem
If you have dry pucks coming out of your machine, this is a well made, nice looking solution to removing and disposing of the pucks. If your pucks are on the wet side -- I have a Breville BES830XL -- things get messy when you slam the portafilter against the knock bar, and the pucks don't come out easily. I have created a work-around by adding a #8 x 1-1/2" stainless flat-head screw with a 3/8"x7/8" nylon sleeve around it just off-center on the top of the bar. This allows enough room to pound out dry pucks (if they sat for a while in my machine) on the standard bar or put the portafilter down over the screw and swirl it around on the bar to clean out the wet puck.
Another issue is that Breville has two kinds of "stainless" finishes. This knock box is actually brushed cast aluminum while the rest of my equipment is true stainless. They are similar but not exact.

Full function, full control
This is a really solid machine with full functionality that enables you to dial in a precise shot and foam milk really well. Upon arrival the machine would not prime (delivered used to me) so I removed the back and blew water into the filter hose while holding down the shot button. Since priming it has worked flawlessly. Combined with an accurate grinder (I recommend the Breville smart grinder pro) you can get really consistent shots with amazing crema and flavor. The one drawback of this machine is that you cannot froth milk and pump shots at the same time -- something common to most consumer espresso makers. If you want to do both at the same time, get the Breville Dual Boiler.
My system to make the time between power-up and pouring as short as possible is: open the steam wand over the tray until it is putting out steam and not spitting water; grind and tamp the beans into the portafilter; steam the milk and then pull the shot. The milk can sit for a minute but the shot should not.
The dial makes it easy to tell if you have a fine enough grind or need to tamp harder to get the pressure into the optimal range. The program button allows you to dial in the precise amount of water per shot.
Very happy with this product and considering that it has been discontinued at least 5 years (and been used during that time) prior to my purchasing it, it has held up very well.

Easy setup, great prints
1 of 1 found this helpful Simple setup -- even for wifi -- great prints and small size. I bought toner from Ink & Toner Geek on Amazon and it functions flawlessly.
