From Edgy-Aggressive-Harsh to Smooth-Mellow-Soulful
I and an EE with over 34 years in the field of Radio Communications and 25+ years working with High Fidelity and Musical Instrument amplification.
To make this short and to the point, I replaced a 0.022 uF Yellow Polystyrene Cap in my Epiphone Invader Electric Guitar, with this special Emerson PIO 0.022uF 300V Capacitor.
The difference was immediately audible. The other benefit I found from installing this capacitor was that the Tone Control, while previously noisy, is now dead-silent on rotation.
Hearing the differences between Capacitors in a Preamplifier or Amplifier is much more subtle. But in an Electric guitar, replacing a part is clearly audible as the circuit is very simple.
I highly recommend this as an upgrade to an Electric Guitar, especially Single Coil types when the end goal is to take away a "the veil of harshness". This Capacitor makes the tone of the Guitar very smooth and musical.
If your thing is for Jazz or the Wes Montgomery sound, this IS the mod to beat.
But you seek to keep an aggressive leading edge and metal is more your style, you would probably want to stick to a less expensive alternative to give the Guitar an 'edge' or 'bite' that Orange Drops often provide.
I have not tried this Emerson Capacitor in any of my Audio Preamplifiers, but I can surely say that this is one great component upgrade for those seeking to purify grunge and achieve the sonic purity of a clean and balanced leading edge.

Excellent 6973 Tubes
With original 6973 Tubes out of production, the Electro-Harmonix Tubes are an excellent choice. In my 30 years of experience, when tubes are out of production new tubes provide a fresh crisp tone that is mistaken as harsheness. All these tubes need is some 30 to 50 hours of break-in to settle down. They work well in a Leslie 251 Amplifier. Guitarists may want expect more, but rest assured they work well. These were perfectly matched to within 2%.
