    One man makes a difference
personally I have always been a fan of Kevin Costner, Dances with Wolves was arguably his best film in my view, but his post apocalipse movies, Waterworld and The Postman both have the same message hidden away, that one person CAN make a difference. In The Postman, a sleazy liar who makes his way by badly acting out Shakespeare before those who know even less becomes something greater than a man, he becomes a symbol, a something which is so strong that it can survive anything. Did he go looking for this, did he hell. Timing played its part, but a fast mouth and mind pulled it of for him. The ability to lie convincingly to those who through hope took little pursuasion brought him food, shelter, clothing and a few other little extras that can really make a mans life look good. Lifes looking real good, as word spreads he is welcomed with open arms almost everywhere, and that false hope he started begins to take on a life of its own, forcing him to become something more. Suddenly the swiftness of mind and mouth mean little, its heart and soul that count as all hell breaks loose. Should he run, or should he stand up and be the man that everybody believes him to be. What a choice to make, run and live even though it means losing those things which have made life good again, or stand and possibly die. I cant honestly say just what choice I would have made, but he made his choice and stuck to it. The film has many layers, many messages, some stand out a country mile, some you need to just feel for, but they are there, just waiting for you to find. Its a feel good movie with a great storyline, not just a sit down relax and enjoy movie, although you can do just that, but if you allow yourself to think about it, then it realy can make you think. For me, its a brilliant film, watch it yourself, see how it feels for you.

Original The Little Shop Of Horrors
its Black and White, its not a musical, it relies on the story and actors.... the misses was creased up with laughter...and she had wanted the colour musical version. I expected a right old ear bending when she realised I had brought the wrong version, I was wrong. Seems as this original is as good as if not better than the musical variation, probably have to buy that for her now though just to see the differences. Just goes to show that age does not count :P

classics are always classic, even when public domain
I remember as a kid sitting down to watch these she-male hooligans, cheering on their mad cap antics. I was just grateful that the girls at my school were not quite so over enthusiastic with their antics. When I was searching ebay for these disks, I did take note of the wide variance in both price and disk count. Yes the I believe movie's are in public domain now, no copyright held on them so therefore anybody can grab a copy of the old movie, convert it to DVD and legally sell it on. And yes, I did see several copies that quite obviously were produced in this manner, eg, all 4 films on a single disk. I could have made a large saving in price by buying that item, but these classics deserve some respect, why buy very cheap and risk losing the quality when for a few pounds more you can have a genuine product that has been made with high quality disks and to high standards. Respect for the classics says that you pay a few pounds more and get something that will have been produced to enhance the original. I don't mind snapping up a few bargains here and there, but then again, was my childhood so poor that I need to cut corners to obtain things that bring back such good memories, nahhh, I don't think so. I paid my money and made my choice, and I didn't make a mistake. Rolling around on the couch laughing heartily in much the same way I did as a kid, the outrageous antics of the girls still brings tears to my eyes today. And how on earth could we forget old Flash Harry with his wide boy capers that would have left Del Boy Trotter gasping. Alistair Sims in a role which so suited him as the devious, disreputable, underhanded and sneaky headmistress. You just can not make comedy like it anymore, who needs to be Politically Correct, certainly not the staff and pupils of St Trinians. And I doubt that anybody who sat down to watch the films could really take offence from them. They are making a modern version of St Trinians, I will be looking forwards to that with bated breath, how on earth can it hope to hold a candle to the original with all its so incorrect humour. Yet, I may be suprised, remakes of some of the old classics sometimes do work... we shall have to wait and see
