just glad i didnt watch this when it was canceled
I'd heard about a quirky show that was unjustly canceled recently and took the winter break to sit and watch a few episodes. I finished the 18 episode complete series in 3 days. This is probably one of my favorite shows, and I'm sad I wasn't part of the campaign to bring it back. The storyline, revolving around teenagers Lindsay Weir and her crew of "freaks" and her younger brother Sam and his gang of "geeks" set in 1980 Michigan, flows throughout the series, but you don't need to have seen every episode to know whats going on and quickly become enthralled in the relationships and events that weave the show together. And similar to other Apatow ventures, F&G isn't too "drama-ey" and instead leans on humor and is really more of a comedy than anything. I love the fact that for once a trip down memory lane to high school revolves around a group other than the jocks, cheerleaders and popular kids that riddle most within the genre. Well written and some superb performances from many up and coming actors (James Franco pre-Spider-Man, Linda Cardellini on "ER" and although I don't think he's a particularly good actor, a young Seth Rogan) as well as cameos from now more famous actors, this is a very well rounded show that casts doubts upon the people who program television to let a gem like this be canceled after only 12 episodes and allow sub-standard sitcom rubbish to continue on air for years and years. I support all musicians, movies and TV I enjoy with buying DVD's and I'll make sure it rarely stays home. That way the legacy of this show that was too soon for its time won't soon be forgotten.
