Cry: The Johnnie Ray Story - Compelling story about a forgotten superstar who linked rhythm and blues with rock.
Johnnie Ray was a very talented man who was before his time in acceptance of lifestyle and played a large price for just trying to be himself. A gifted child whose hearing was injured young but overcame this and numerous obstacles to entertain the world. He introduced rhythm and blues to the pop market and created the birth of rock and roll. His music goes unrecognized today and generations are not able to enjoy his contributions to music and rock. Book well written. Author researched what he wrote and provided numerous footnotes to substantiate Johnnie's contribution to music. I particularly appreciated that photographs were included.
