Good book for beginers + experienced wrenches looking to refresh the basics
A great book if you're a beginner to the world of Diesel. Lots of technical info and theory presented in a manner that's easily understood. This book gives you a good foundation to build on.
Good for experienced wrenches that want to brush up on the basics again.
Banks Engineering excepts are pure gold. Worth the price of admission all by themselves.
Heavily biased towards modern Diesel/common rail systems but the principles all apply right back to earlier IDI systems. Just don't expect a lot of Info about IDI. Mentioned a few times, but no real insight into it's operation/performance.
Overall, just general information and theory on Diesel performance.
If you're looking for specific info on a model (IE: 6.5 GM,Duramax, Cummins, Powerstroke, etc) and how to make "X" hp or "Y" torque, look for another book dealing with that engine only.
Still, great general reading or coffee table book for Gearheads!
