I'll Have It My Way NOW
I am using this book to rewrite my medical directive. I will include not only the standard issues like feeding tubes, hydration, extraordinary measures but also things I want done if I am in a coma. I want my teeth brushed, my mouth swabbed with mouthwash, my hair kept clean and brushed. I want my family to TOUCH me--hold my hand, hug me, kiss me. I love the feel of clean, fresh sheets and I expect to have them whether I am in my own home, a family member's home, or a skilled nursing facility.
I want my friends and family to know that I am OKAY with dying. If the quality of my life is gone, then I see no purpose in sticking around. I will spell out what I think is QUALITY in life. If necessary, I hope my children or grandchildren would assist me in taking my life if that quality is gone.
