Cold Steal Trench Hawk Review
2 of 2 found this helpful The Trench Hawk from Cold Steal is certainly a good buy. The handle keeps it light weight, while the widening at the end allows for an easy to maintain grip during swings, and the finger grooves near the head gives your hand a comfortable placement while performing things like axe jabs in a cqc (close quarters combat) situation. And the slight rise at the top of the blade is good for thrusting. You can also use the hole at the bottom of the handle to tie some emergency chord should you decide to wrap your hawk with some. The blade is sharp with a flat bevel. The edge is crescent shaped, which makes for great cutting. The beard isn't unnecessarily long, which keeps it conveniently compact while still allowing for great hooking. The spike on the reverse side is a great means of impalement, which gives the user more combinations to incorporate. The sheath is a hard plastic with pivoting joints, and held to your axe head with a snap strap. While leather looks nice, this sheath is sure to take a beating without eventually tearing. It also has holes around it so you can secure it to a pack while hiking. Though, I prefer mine in a holster on my side. One thing I hear as an issue is because the sheath doesn't have a belt clip, there's no place to put it but the ground after removal from the hawk. However i find a simple solution is, after unsheathing your hawk, run the snap strap (safety strap) thru your belt loop (I use the loop at the very back) and snap it closed to hang until finished. So far I am quite pleased with my hawk, and hope that anyone who gets one will be as well
