Sturdy and strong.
Sturdiest laptop that I own (and my wife - a college teacher) uses several.

for a student computer, this is just fine.
The "digital divide" is leaving 50% of the Junior High School students in the dust. This barebones - add a P4, memory, an adapted laptop PATA HDD and it is a good student computer. Load the non-PAE version of a LINUX flavor like Bodhi or Lubuntu + office and it is good enough.

Hardware acceleration in the camera!
The Via Video worked on Windows 98 and 2000 with a 400 MHz PIII processor. With the P4 and XP, it's a slam dunk. Better video quality and fewer motion artifacts than when using a cheap USB Camera (well PVX and a 2+ GHz P4 compete).
These "desk top" cameras were rolled out for corporate and institutional videoconferencing at $699 and were well worth the price - in 2002. Today, the NIB price is typically $99 - $129 and they are well worth that - if you need to connect to high-end corporate systems at CIF quality. The included audio processing (echo cancellation) is another must have for business use. You might also look into used MX and FX systems for dedicated room use.
