Setting up your shipping options

From sending through the mail to arranging a local pickup, there are many ways to send items to your buyers. By offering more than one delivery option, you'll be able to attract different types of buyers.

You can pick which shipping methods you want to offer your buyers when creating your listing. Depending on whether you're using our quick listing tool, or our advanced listing tool, you'll do this in slightly different ways:

Setting your delivery options using the quick listing tool

On the listing page, scroll down to the Shipping section. You can choose to ship your item, offer local pickup, or offer both options.

  • Ship your item – You select a fixed cost or we calculate cost for you based on package weight and dimensions. You can pay the shipping yourself
  • Local pickup – Nearby buyers pick up the item from your home or someplace else you choose

If you choose to ship your item:

  1. In Ship your item, enter a fixed cost or the package weight and dimensions so we can calculate the cost.
  2. If you're not happy with the recommended shipping service, select Change shipping service to choose another option.
  3. Select the calculated rate, or if you'd like, choose the option to charge a fixed amount and enter the amount. You can also choose to offer free shipping and pay it yourself.

If you offer local pickup, enter the postal code for your item location.

Setting your delivery options using the advanced listing tool
  1. Go to the Shipping section.
  2. Select an existing policy from the Shipping policy dropdown or select the three dot menu to create a new shipping policy or edit an existing one.
  3. Under Domestic shipping, you can select:
    • Calculated: Cost varies by location (you can use the shipping calculator - opens in new window or tab to get an estimate for each service's charge)
    • Flat: Same cost to all buyers (create your own rate tables detailing your shipping charges for each area)
    • Freight: Large items that require special handling
    • No shipping: Local pickup only
  4. If you choose Calculated or Flat, select your preferred Services.
  5. If you're offering a flat rate, enter the shipping cost.
  6. Set your handling cost (calculated shipping only) and handling time.
  7. Select whether you want to ship internationally
  8. Select Save.

You can also set up and manage your shipping options using business policies. For more control over setting shipping costs by region, you can use shipping rate tables.

Tip
We recommend you upload tracking to eBay within your stated handling time. Buyers are more confident their orders will arrive when they receive regular updates on the shipping status, and are less likely to file “Item not received” claims.
