Good Movie, Terrible Case

While I got the movie and it was in perfect condition and worked marvelously, the case was in horrible disrepair. The top of the case was crushed shut and dented in, while the other end had a busted clip, so the bottom of the case was completely open. I have another case now, and I see why it was priced low, but at least a little quality assurance for the case would be good.Read full review...

Johnny can sing

Singing and slashing who knew these could go hand in hand. I give it a more than good but not quite excellent rating -it is a little hard to understand the british accents in song at first. The cast (harry potter meets pirates) is excellent -I think the 'blonde kid' should have been played by 'draco malfoy' to complete the theme. I didn't realize it was a musical although I knew it had singing and wow am I impressed, who knew they could sing apparently not even them, but they belted it. It's Johnny Depp singing definately a must see -he should do more singing roles.Read full review...

Sweeny Todd:Demon Barber of Fleet Street

I liked the idea of a musical that wasn't all happy and high pitched screeching. The plot was not too complicated - rather simple - and based on how far some people are willing to go to get revenge for having their life ruined by another. I have always admired Johnny Depp's acting abilities. I honestly think he makes the movies he stars in. He's just crazy enough to make it look effortless. I find the songs get stuck in my head often and after watching the movie, I feel like I HAVE to watch it again soon. This movie is also horrific in the amount of violence and gore - this is NOT why I enjoy the movie. I would say this movie is disturbing - except I agree with the reason behind Todd's actions (how many persons wouldn't react in this way to some degree - not necessarily violent?).Read full review...

SweeneyTodd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

I cannot not say initially that I enjoyed this film the first time I had watched it in the theater. I had gone into the film not knowing a thing about the plot, nor had I realized that it was a musical. However, I had always been a huge fan of the Depp-Bonham Carter duo, so after seeing the film for the second time, I was hooked. The dark, enchanting ways in which Tim Burton directs in his films is only again captured in this film. After his daughter is taken away, and wife driven to insanity, Ben Barker seeks revenge on the corrupt judge whose rulings loom over Victorian era in London. Beautifully carried out, Sweeney Todd unfolds the secrets of love, revenge and tragedy.Read full review...

Depp SHINES as Sweeny Todd

Having seen the old theatrical production, with Angela Landsbury, I was anxious to see this new one. Being a fan of Depp and Rickman and wondering how they would pull this off. They did marvelously, as did the rest of the cast. Depp proves, yet again, that he can do no wrong in front of a camera. Beautifully executed by all with brilliant cinematography and sets. If you are looking for "Pirates" action and "keep you on the edge of your seat" excitment, I would suggest you walk away. However, I do highly recommend this to anyone willing to step out of "the norm".Read full review...

Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street DVD

This is another GREAT collabaration between Johnny Depp and Tim Burton (and Helena Bonham-Carter)!

You can tell our man Johnny really got into the part. (as usual) I had read that he stayed in character even when off the set and would walk around his big house in France singing and slashing at objects with a fake razor. I can see that...

The music is LOUD. I found myself constantly adjusting the volume on the remote. The music was overwhelming and at times I couldn't hear the dialogue.

It's bloody, to be sure. I like horror movies very much and am not particularly squeamish, but I had to look away or hide my eyes in my hands a few times. Shockingly graphic !

Johnny is a pretty good singer. Not a lot of range, but who cares?...

I highly recommend this film for ALL Johnny Depp fans and anybody over the age of 12 (on account of all the fake blood).

Pop a frozen beef pot pie in the oven a half hour before you sit down to watch this movie, so when Mrs. Lovett is singing about her homemade meat pies, you can experience that wholesome goodness !! Bon Appetite !

This role was a real stretch for Johnny Depp

You almost have to read the credits to believe that a man like Johnny Depp could star in Pirates of the Carabean and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but then to take a dark role like Benjamin Barker (aka Sweeney Todd) I think a collaboration between Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino could probably get the members of Force Recon to puke in their boots. Ultra-violent and ultra-graphic, but mesmerizing. I couldn't turn away. And here is a hint (that won't be a spoiler.) If you haven't seen the play or know anything about the storyline, watch closely. I had figured out a few things before it was revealed in the movie. Kudos all around to Tim Burton and the entire cast.Read full review...

Demon Barber of Fleet Street... Care for a snip???

For the Tim Burton lover!!! Yes this considered a dark movie but Johnny Depp Plays his role wonderfully and Helena Bonham Carter the same. I myself love all of Tim Burtons movies. This dark "goth" movie Sweeney Todd plays the meaning of love and hate... With Todds daughter where abouts unknown his finds the murderer of his wife and get his revenge and meets "Carter" along the way... they together bring mayhem to Fleet Street... With his shaving and her meat pies, and a damsel in distress. This is all i can say with out ruining the movie. This is a must see movie for any fans of Depp, Carter, and Burton!!! I will give this movie 5 of 5 stars :)Read full review...

A masterpiece of the macabre

Tim Burton's version of Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street is magnificent! I have already viewed it 5 times and I know I'll be viewing it many, many more. Johnny Depp is perfection. How in the world a man can be sexy while slashing throats with a barber's razor is beyond me, but he does. He always seems to truly understand his characters and the quirkier, the better. He is so believable that its unsettling at times. Pairing him with Helena Bonham Carter is genious. They belong together! So much so, that I hope they appear in many, many more movies. Just amazing chemistry.

Alan Rickman who plays the evil Judge Turpin, sets off a series of unimaginable events when his lust for a beautiful young woman causes him to send the young husband, played by Johnny Depp, away for over a decade on false charges. This causes extreme hardship on the young family and ultimately, collapse.

I don't want to reveal too much, the story actually begins when Benjamin Bark aka Sweeney Todd returns and decides to reek his revenge on the judge who destroyed everything he ever loved.

Not since West Side Story have I truly enjoyed a musical score as much as this one. Stephen Sondheim once again brings it to the table. I am still singing the lyrics. I cannot get them out of my head.

This movie is actually based on a true story about a barber who killed many, many people and teamed up with an equally mad woman who decided to create a very unique restaurant.

This is a very bloody movie. However, it's not excessive considering the facts.

I give this the highest possible rating. I love this movie.

Wow...Johnny Depp can do show tunes, too!

Johnny Depp, Tim Burton and Helen Bonham-Carter. Brilliant. Need I say more? Well, of course...
Firstly, this is a very dark movie. Not for kids! Just because it's a musical, doesn't mean there are cats dancing around, or someone singing Hakuna Matata.
This musical is about a barber (who kills people for various reasons), the woman who wants to love the barber (who turns the people he kills into meat pies she sells), and the sad world they live in.

Johnny Depp is very talented, and it shows here. You can tell he gives 100% in this film (and pulls it off flawlessly). Helen Boham-Carter is equally brilliant as his co-star. Together they really do make this movie fantastic. All the actors and actresses in this movie are impressive, and believable. Some people have a hard time watching musicals, with songs to move the plot along..but this one is well made.

I specifically recommend this movie to anyone who's into horror films, even if they can't stand musicals..this one is not your typical show tune filled production!
