My macbook pro browser performance was inexplicably slow on startup and when I switched to tethered mode on my iPhone, it would work fine. I had time machine 5.2Ghz wifi in the living room, about 5 yards away. Something just wasn't working. ASUS ZenWifi resolved the issue. I don't have any wifi6 devices, but dual-node system is itself a wifi6 device, which made a difference right away. I installed the router node in the garage and the unwired node unit in my office, up one floor and on the opposite corner of the house, separated by a 20 year old subzero refrigerator, a furnace, two streaming devices, and lots of personal gadgets. Out of the box, it worked immediately as a bridge, using an ethernet port on the node unit to plug in my compuler without using wifi., One of the nodes had out of date firmware. The Asus server timed out when I triggered the upgrade from the iPhone Asus Router app, so I downloaded the firmware from Asus on my mac. It recommended verifying the MD5 signature. I went to the web admin console from my browser, and I tried triggering the upgrade from the device again, and this time it worked fine, took about 15min, and I didn't have to check the md5 signature. It solved the problem of web browsers acting sluggishly on my macbook pro on startup. and across our mobile devices. Speedtest.net scores went from 9down 2up to 28down 9 up with better latency. It's hard to describe it but browser applications have a tendency to be very chatty in the background, and this is no longer causing issues like web pages that give up and die while loading. The device configures itself out of the box with a brief setup routine, although there is full access to various advanced configuration options. The iPhone app let's you see real time data transfer rates, put a name on every device that is connecting and, if I want, throttle bandwidth selectively on a device-by-device basis. The user experience is excellent compared to typical web based configuration consoles, and the important configuration process is completely automated. I chose this based on a product review in PC Magazine and reports of configuration challenges with other devices from Asus and other mesh wifi vendors.Read full review

Extremely happy with the routers. Compared to the router they replaced, the WIFI coverage is much better, grant it that router was a single router, non mesh system. I tried a competitor product, also a mesh system, but I sent that system back in favor of the AI Mesh system. I have read that some had negative comments regarding the web app. I personally love all of the features it offers. I love the ease of use of the guest network as well. I have already recommended this product to family members.

I’ve had WiFi products from every manufacturer over the years, but ASUS hot this one out of the park. This replaced a Netgear Nighthawk that was nearly new yet inconsistent. I’m now getting near wired speed with better coverage. App is great, easy for those who just want to turn it on and go

I bout this pair on Feb 2, 2021. Excellent product. Greatly improved home wi-fi coverage, capacity, throughput, and reliability over a Netgear Nighthawk wireless router and repeater. Easy to set up and easy to monitor. Mesh connection can be either via wireless or Ethernet. Works great...very satisfied. My only complaint was that ASUS web site made it difficult to register product until I was informed it had to be registered as a set rather than via the individual serial numbers.

This was my first foray into putting a mesh system in my home and I could not be happier! The ASUS Router app makes setting it all up incredibly easy and the range on these routers is phenomenal. The system automatically detects which one is the main router and which one is the satellite, and it automatically configured the 5Ghz backhaul link between them. The reason I went to mesh was because in my back office I had a very hard time getting a stable signal over wifi and it usually capped out at 60mbps up and down. Now with the XT8 I get 550mbps up and down in the same room. It’s honestly a total game changer for me and if you are considering a Wifi 6 mesh system I would stop looking and go with this. Orbi advertises higher speeds, but I’m getting 750mbps in the same room as the main unit so I don’t see where it could get any faster than that over wifi. Plus the XT8 costs way less than the Orbi Wifi 6 system. Highly recommended!Read full review
