If you can avoid obnoxious screen whine, the Tungsten TX is fine.
1 of 2 found this helpful I picked this up as part of a retro tech kick I've been on. Started with an older Palm OS device, but wanted something with WiFi, which led me here.
Positives
-Classic Palm resistive touchscreen. Responds to a light touch compared to many Pocket PC devices.
-Huge array of Palm OS software/games available if you know how to find that sort of thing.
Negatives
-Screen whine. Apparently a widespread issue with time, my used model was affected. There's an app (Whinehack) that helps, but it's still pretty annoying and certainly doesn't entice me to use the device. Opening an intense app also stops the hack from working, bringing whine back to full, very annoying volume.
-Palm OS really shows its age more than the device. Despite having much more capable hardware than the Handspring Visor Neo I also have, the most useful parts of Palm OS function quite similarly. Despite the 200Mhz processor, there's no HTML web browser that is even a little bit usable from my testing, which is a disappointment. There's apparently a hack to allow WPA security, but I haven't tested this.
If you're looking for a Palm OS 5 device so you can run a wide variety of old apps, this fits the bill, but the screen whine is annoying enough that I wouldn't recommend one of these for a retro tech enthusiast in 2018. Hopefully the value goes up on these, though I'm certainly not helping myself with this review.
